Playtime

We were asked to redesign this narrow play yard on behalf of the Montessori School in Winchester. The space was very narrow and not very child friendly, mainly laid with concrete slabs and edgings for unplanted beds.

The Design

The concrete paving, edgings and unused flower beds were removed and the area was covered with Playbark to provide a safe and soft area for the children to play. A pathway was still required, however, so we designed a fun snake shape natural stone pathway curving through the garden.

We constructed a bespoke softwood pergola to add a feature to the garden. This could also potentially be used with trailing or climbing plants to add shade to the play area. At the far end of the garden, in the corner, we constructed a bespoke wooden play fort. We also installed shrub beds edged with railway sleepers. Plants and hanging baskets were added to brighten up the area.

The owners of the school were delighted with the design and quality- providing them with a safe and secure are for the children to play in all year round.
